ROSEVILLE  (AP) – President Barack Obama is set to announce the details of his plan to roll back parts of the No Child Left Behind law, and Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius will be there.

On Friday morning, Obama is scheduled to release the details of his administration’s plans to grant waivers that would free states from some requirements of the law.

The administration has said states would have to meet certain criteria to get the waivers, but those conditions haven’t been publicized.

The Minnesota Department of Education has already put in a request that would prevent more schools from being listed as failures under the law and release districts from some of the law’s financial sanctions.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and several state education leaders are expected to attend.
