ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota's Republican National Committeewoman and Committeeman are both resigning their positions.

Evie Axdahl and Brian Sullivan confirmed to Minnesota Public Radio News they would announce their resignations at the Minnesota Republican Party's State Executive Committee meeting Thursday.

Axdahl says she is resigning because her husband is in poor health. She was first elected RNC committeewoman in 1989.

Sullivan has served as RNC committeeman for six years and was a candidate for governor in 2002. He says his resignation will take effect when his successor is elected.

Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Tony Sutton praised Axdahl and Sullivan for their service.

RNC members help direct the party at the state level and have a vote on the Republican National Committee.
