ST. PAUL (AP) — A statewide poll of Minnesotans finds low support for the new law that allows a union organizing drive among in-home child care providers and personal care attendants.

The Star Tribune Minnesota Poll published Friday finds 41 percent of respondents supported the law, which was passed last month by Democrats in the Legislature and signed by Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton. 46 percent of those polled disagreed with it, while 13 percent were unsure.

The bill allowing the union drives became a contentious issue in the last days of the legislative session with Republicans lining up against it but unable to stop it. The poll found strong opinions on both sides and suggests it could be an issue when Republicans try to retake the House in the 2014 election.
