MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Orchestra conductor Osmo Vanska has resigned as a labor impasse between management and musicians drags on.

Vanska gave notice Tuesday in a prepared statement. He said his resignation was effective immediately.

Musicians have been locked out for a year as management sought deep pay cuts. They rejected the latest contract offer over the weekend.

Vanska was credited with raising the orchestra's reputation to one of the world's best. He called it a "very sad" day.
