ST. PAUL (AP) - Law enforcement agencies throughout Minnesota are stepping up drunken driving enforcement as part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says the stepped up enforcement starts Friday and continues through September 5th.

In Minnesota, the State Patrol will partner with nearly 400 city and county agencies to prevent alcohol-related tragedies, joining 10,000 participating agencies nationwide.

DPS officials say added enforcement and education campaigns have led to a decline of impaired driving tragedies. There were 131 alcohol-related traffic deaths in 2010, the fewest on record.

A drunken driving offense can result in loss of license for up to a year, thousands of dollars in expenses and possibly jail time.
