ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota man is planning to ride from California to Maryland as part of an endurance event that will have him in the saddle some 20 hours a day.

Bob McEnaney of Woodbury will be raising money for the Minnesota Military Family Foundation along the way.

McEnaney tells reporters he's "scared to death" about the 3,000-mile Race Across America, which he starts Tuesday. He says he's doing it to challenge himself.

McEnaney traveled to California twice this spring for training sessions. He completed a three-day 650-mile test ride.  He says his peak is 55 hours on a bike.

Unlike other races, the Race Across America doesn't stop the race clock to allow for breaks. McEnaney plans to sleep in an RV for only three hours a day.
