FERGUS FALLS (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton says there's good news and bad news for hunters as Minnesota's firearms deer season opens Saturday.

Dayton wished everybody good hunting when he spoke at a luncheon in Fergus Falls on Friday for the annual Governor's Deer Hunting Opener.

He told the crowd the bad news is the forecast for early Saturday morning was for temperatures around 25 degrees. He told them the good news was that Saturday was predicted to be the warmest morning for the next several days. So he claimed credit for bringing them good weather.

Dayton won't be shivering away in some tree stand Saturday. While he speaks at the ceremonial events for the annual governor's deer openers, he's a pheasant hunter, not a deer hunter.
