MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A man in an electric wheelchair has died after being struck by a light-rail train in south Minneapolis.

Metro Transit officers responded to a call around 6 p.m. of a man who had been hit by a northbound train on Blue Line tracks.

The pedestrian was not alone when he crossed the tracks. He was taken to a local hospital and died about three hours later.

Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla says all warning devices were operating at the time of the accident. He says an investigation will look into whether the man's wheelchair played a role in his inability to cross the tracks.

The Blue Line Station is located near about seven group homes for individuals with disabilities.
