Minneapolis DFL Fails to Endorse Mayoral Candidate

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minneapolis mayoral race is wide open after the DFL Party failed to endorse a candidate.

Former Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Andrew led on every ballot at Saturday’s convention and won a majority on the fourth, but could not get the 60 percent needed for the endorsement.

The convention adjourned after more than 12 hours when City Council member Betsy Hodges’ campaign told its delegates to leave for pizza outside, leaving the convention with no quorum.

So all six candidates will run in the Nov. 5 general election. Some other candidates are expected to join the race as well.

There will be no primary because the heavily Democratic city has switched to a ranked-choice voting system.
