Minn. PUC Takes Pass On Fate Of Proposed Wind Farm
ST. PAUL, (AP) – The Public Utilities Commission has delayed action on a wind farm proposed for southeastern Minnesota that’s drawn opposition because of the danger it could pose to eagles and bats.
The New Era project seeks to build a 78-megawatt wind farm near Zumbrota in Goodhue County. Several developments have happened since the project was proposed four years ago. The project has changed owners and some of the original participants have dropped out.
The PUC tabled the matter Thursday. Commissioners wanted more information about the plan to install 48 turbines before allowing it to go forward.
New Era, formerly known as AWA Goodhue, has been tangled in legal challenges as two groups – Goodhue Wind Truth and the Coalition for Sensible Siting – have fought the development
