ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A House panel is working in marathon mode to try to finalize a tax bill.

The Taxes Committee led by GOP Rep. Greg Davids of Preston meets Saturday with the aim of passing a bill.

Lawmakers in both chambers are facing an internal deadline of next Friday to finish bills for all areas of the state budget as majority Republicans push to put together their budget proposal. Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton released his budget recommendations last month.

The House tax panel has been holding long meetings this week to hash through issues including proposed cuts to local government aid and proposals to allow new local sales taxes.
