MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Metrodome's operators say installation of its new roof is on track and they now think it will be ready to host events again on August 12.

Metrodome engineer Steve Maki says the contractor hired to oversee the roof work expects to inflate the new roof the last week of July. After that the city of Minneapolis will take several days to inspect the projects, and Dome workers will need a few days to groom the playing field.

Among the first scheduled events is an open house to celebrate the Dome's new $18 million fiberglass roof. The Vikings' first home game at the refurbished dome is scheduled for Aug. 27.

The roof collapsed Dec. 12 in the aftermath of a blizzard. Replacement work started in March.
