ST. CLOUD - Smaller winter storms can cause just as much trouble as the big blizzards.

Today (Tuesday) is day two of the sixth annual Northern Plains Winter Storm Conference in St. Cloud. Meteorologists, members of the National Weather Service, and St. Cloud State University students met at the Holiday Inn to discuss winter weather, and ways to improve the forecasting of severe storms.

SCSU Meteorology professor Bob Weisman said blizzards can sometimes be safer than small storms because we take them more seriously.

Weisman says December 10th and 12th of last year received the 5th highest snowfall amount in Minneapolis, and many meteorologists predict another snowy winter for central Minnesota this year.
