Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, for Melvin N. Kruchten, age 88, of St. Cloud, who passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Timothy Gapinski will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Melvin was born on July 4, 1928 in St. Cloud to Edward and Elizabeth (Nies) Kruchten. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946. After graduation he was drafted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge, he met and married Viola A. Renner. They were married on September 1, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan, ND. He spent the majority of his professional career working as a sales representative for Banker’s Systems in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Melvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will always be known for his positive attitude and gentle disposition. He loved bowling, golfing, fishing, playing cards and dancing with his wife. Melvin also enjoyed a quick stop at the Dairy Queen whenever he could.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Viola, of St. Cloud; children, Leann (Dana) Smith of Austin, TX, Michael of St. Cloud, David (Robyn) of Waconia, Stephen (Pamela) of Eagan, Joan (Jim) Griffen of Simpsonville, SC; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Viola Osgood, Arlene Orear and Cathy (Gene) Reichensberger; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brothers, Harold, Ralph, and Harvey; sisters, Estelle Olson and Mary Ann Wade.
