MELROSE - The corner of Main Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Melrose remains closed this (Friday) morning, after a fire destroyed a historic building on that corner yesterday. Fire crews are still investigating, and the cause is still not known at this time.

The fire chief says they treated one person for smoke inhalation.

WJON Reporter Chrissy Gaetke says residents have been stopping to look at the damaged building throughout the day, calling the fire "devastating".

Business owners have been discussing the next steps, as they look to move forward.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to make a donation to the people who were renting an apartment in the building, authorities encourage you to contact the Red Cross.
