Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 1, 2014 at Church of Our Lady in Manannah for Mathew “Math” W. Lahr, age 90, who passed away Wednesday at Cherrywood Advanced Living in Richmond. Rev. Brian Mandel will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services Monday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Eden Valley. The family extends much gratitude to St. Croix Hospice and Cherrywood Advanced Living (Richmond) for the wonderful care they provided to Math.

Math was born on October 16, 1923 in Richmond, MN to Math and Mary (Kinzer) Lahr, one of fourteen children. He worked on the family farm, later served in the Air Force during WW II and was honorably discharged. While Math was waiting to be deployed overseas for a land invasion of Europe, United States action against Japan ended the war. Things could have been very different for him had he gone. He was a member of the Eden Valley American Legion Post #381 and Church of Our Lady in Manannah. Math was married to Caroline Scheierl on April 15, 1950 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Paynesville, MN. He and Caroline farmed in the Grove City area until buying their farm near Manannah. He enjoyed farming and felt privileged being a steward of the land. Math had a great love of John Deere equipment and Ford vehicles – nothing could be better. After retiring in 1995, they rented out the land but continued to stay on the farm for many years. Math still loved the soil as he began to help with Caroline’s vegetable garden – potatoes and sweet corn were his specialty (even though he was constantly fighting off the raccoons). Next to the coons, weeds were his worst enemy – they didn’t stand a chance. Math also took great care with their huge lawn and could be seen regularly tuning up the old “General”. Math enjoyed conversation and talking about current events. Family was the most important thing to him. On November 1, 2010, Math and Caroline moved to Assumption Court Apartments in Cold Spring, MN where the pressures of owning a home could at last be relieved. In August, 2014 they moved together (as they had always been) to Cherrywood Advanced Living in Richmond, MN, where Math lived out his final days.

Math is survived by his wife, Caroline; children, Diane Boben of Walker, Mike (Brenda) of Eden Valley, Susan Kelly of Eden Prairie, and Robert of Bloomington; grandchildren, Mickael (Brandon) Stuve, Matt Lahr, Jim, Marissa and Dillon Kelly; great grandchildren, Connor and Taylen Stuve; sister, Lucille Lahr; brothers, Art (Carol) and Clarence (Joyce); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Terence Boben and Kevin Kelly; brothers, John, Marcellus, Roman, Albert, Anton, Eugene; an infant brother; and sisters, Marie Daher, Irene Arnold, and Luella Lahr.

Math will be greatly missed by his family, but we know he is now with God and can live on in peace. May God Bless.
