Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Marvin T. Scholtes, age 89, of St. Cloud. Marvin passed away peacefully on August 8, 2016 at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud with family at his side. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Entombment will take place in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in St. Cloud with full military honors.
Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by Waite Park American Legion Post 428 at 6 p.m. and VFW Post 428 at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Marvin was born March 26, 1927 in St. Cloud to Theodore and Marie (Peitz) Scholtes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Idaho. He married his sweetheart Joan Krier on October 16, 1948 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He went to work at Franklin Manufacturing (Electolux) where he retired. He was also actively involved in the Boy Scouts as a Scout Master for Troop 5. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Waite Park American Legion Post 428 and a life member of VFW Granite Post 428.

Marvin will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and wine making.

Marvin is survived by his children Clifford (Linda), Harold (Sherry), Vanessa (Mark) Koempel, and Janet (Mike) Toenjes, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and sister-in-law Mary Jane Scholtes.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents, wife Joan, son Dale, one infant granddaughter, sister Ruth Krafty and brothers Charles, Duane, Eugene and James.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the VA Medical Center/Hospice and Cherrywood Advanced Living, as well to Dr. Lalley and the staff at Health Partners.
