Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids for Marjorie J. Mechels, age 74, who passed away Friday, May 29, at her residence in Eagan. Pastor Harvey Ehlers and Pastor James Kroonbland will officiate and burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and 1 hour before services Thursday at the church.

Marjorie was born May 8, 1941 in Fairmont to Elvin and Edna (Schmidt) Klatt. She graduated from Long Prairie High School. She married David Mechels August 25, 1962 in Minneapolis and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1971. She had a special resiliency in raising her sons after the death of her husband. Marjorie had lived most of her life in Sauk Rapids. She had worked at Frigidaire for 19 years as a purchasing officer and then for New Flyer as a purchasing officer. For the past 10 years she has worked as a church secretary for Trinity Lone Oak Lutheran Church in Eagan.

Marjorie was very independent, hardworking and compassionate. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them including going to plays and hockey games. She was an avid sports fan and a diehard fan of the Minnesota Wild. Marjorie enjoyed the last few years working for the church and spending time with her colleagues and truly believed in that organization.

Survivors include her sons, Kent (Denise) of Rochester and Eric (Naomi) of Minneapolis; four grandchildren, David, Kate, Joe and Ben.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, brother, Edward and sister, Mary-Ann Siems.
