Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Marie A. Schmitt, age 92, who passed away Wednesday at Country Manor. Rev. Timothy Gapinski will officiate and burial will be in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Daughters of Isabella at 6:30 p.m. at the church on Sunday.

Marie was born on June 8, 1922 to Joseph and Appolonia (Wemhoff) Bisping in Winsted. After graduating high school from Holy Trinity in Winsted, Marie worked as a nanny later continuing her employment at Montgomery Ward. Marie worked as a bookkeeper at ZAPP National Bank until her retirement. On November 12, 1945 she married Richard Schmitt at Holy Trinity Church in Winsted. Marie was a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was a past regent of the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Club, VFW Post 428 Auxiliary, Legion of Mary, St. Marcella’s Mission Group, and Christian Women. Marie enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, baking pies, bowling, bingo and playing cards. She was a gentle woman who was devoted to her faith, church and volunteering. Marie’s pride and joy was her family, taking great joy in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her children, Mary Kaye (Donald) Gross of St. Cloud, Tom (Jan) Schmitt of St. Cloud, Harvey (Mary) Schmitt of St. Cloud, Brenda (Jerry) Sosinske of Edina, Lois Schmitt of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Karin Anderson, Nathan Schmitt, Leah Schmitt, Aaron Gross, Jeff Schmitt, Molly Anderson, Kim Richardson, Matt Schmitt, David Schmitt; great-grandchildren, Lily Schmitt, Katy Anderson, Calvin Richardson, Hannah Anderson, Piper Anderson; and sister-in-law, Bea Bisping of St. Cloud. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard in 1977; four brothers, Carl, Leo, Leonard, and Wilbert.

Marie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Country Manor for their dedicated care of their mother.
