Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley for Marie A. Gruenes, age 88, of Eden Valley who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Koronis Care Center, Paynesville. Rev. Aaron Nett will officiate and burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Eden Valley. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Eden Valley and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday.

Marie was born July 29, 1928 in Richmond to Edward and Theresa (Kramer) Thielen. On June 20, 1951 she married Andrew P. Gruenes at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. The couple remained in Eden Valley to raise their 6 children. Marie worked at Animal Fair and most recently, in housekeeping at the Paynesville Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and Christian Women. Marie was a very spiritual women and walked strongly in her faith. She took great pride in cooking for family gatherings; a good meal always meant sitting around the dinner table together as a family. Marie was extremely passionate about gardening; and enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, and sewing. She enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams; Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Marie loved being a grandmother and it would warm her heart to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most importantly, Marie will be remembered as caring, loving, compassionate and loving her family beyond words.

Marie is survived by her children, Kevin of Richmond, Jerry (Colleen) of Richmond, Greg (Betty) of Kensington, Joyce (John) Gertken of Eden Valley, Dennis (Aime Carroll) of Port Orchard, WA, Denise of Richmond; siblings, Lorraine Handrahan of Eden Prairie, Sally Olson of Minneapolis, Larry Thielen of Zimmerman, Rita Arnold of Cambridge; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and greatly anticipated the birth of two more great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; infant son, John; siblings, Celestine, Sylvester, Aurelia and Isadore Thielen.
