September 6, 1921 – August 15, 2015

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 noon, Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Marcellus “Sal” Theis, age 93, who died Saturday at his home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20th at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 – 11:45 a.m., Friday morning in the St. Boniface Church Narthex.

Marcellus was born in Cold Spring to Nicholas and Katherine (Decker) Theis. He married Rita Nistler on October 31, 1946 in St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Marcellus served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 1942 to October 1945 as an Aerial Engineer. Sal owned Theis Painting and retired in his mid 70’s. He liked to play golf and was an avid baseball, football, and basketball fan. Sal was the manager of the Cold Spring Springers 1955 State Champions. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Cold Spring American Legion.

Survivors include his sons, Robert “Spitz” Spaeth (foster son), Mike (Danelle) Theis; daughter, Jean Hanson; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; siblings, Selena (Al) Geers, Genevive (Al) Stein, Carl (June) Theis, and Ed (Irene) Theis.

Arrangements are with the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN.
