LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities have ruled the death of the man suspected of shooting and critically wounding a Minnesota police officer a suicide.

The Mayo Clinic Medical Examiner identifies the man found dead in a Lake City home Monday as 25-year-old Alan John Sylte of Hager City, Wis.

Preliminary autopsy results show Sylte died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officer Shawn Schneider was shot in the head Monday while responding to a domestic situation at a house in Lake City.

Schneider remains in critical condition at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The 32-year-old officer is married and the father of three children. Schneider's family is asking community members to leave their porch lights on as a sign of support for the wounded officer.
