VADNAIS HEIGHTS -- Authorities say a man has been fatally shot by a Ramsey County sheriff's deputy.

The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in Vadnais Heights. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says deputies were on routine patrol near Highway 61 and Interstate 694 when they spotted a suspicious RV and car. Four deputies encountered a man in the RV and a woman in the car.

The BCA says at one point, a deputy inside the RV fired his or her gun, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The woman in the car was interviewed and released. No deputies were injured. All four deputies are on standard administrative leave.
