Man in Custody After Stewartville Standoff
STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (AP) - A standoff has ended peacefully at an apartment building in Stewartville in southeastern Minnesota.
Officers spoke to the 29-year-old Rochester man inside the apartment by cellphone and persuaded him to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident just before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities tells reporters the man showed up at an apartment about 9 a.m. Thursday to demand money he claimed he was owed. The man is known to carry a gun, but Olmsted County Sheriff Dave Mueller says no weapon was found.
No injuries were reported.
Stewartville Intermediate School was locked down as a precaution. Some area businesses also locked their doors.
