LIBERTY TOWNSHIP (AP) - A man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage and threatening her life has been arrested in Beltrami County.

Sheriff's officials say deputies responded to a medical call Sunday in Liberty Township. When deputies arrived they said they found a 76-year-old man who had not slept for days due to complications of Lyme disease. Authorities asked his girlfriend to leave in order for him to get some sleep.

The man later called 911 and said he was going to shoot himself. His girlfriend had returned to the residence and had repeated tried to leave, but he wouldn't let her and threatened her life.

SWAT officers were called and negotiations with the man went on for five hours. The woman made an escape from a second story window using a fire ladder. The man then surrendered to officers.
