DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - A northern Minnesota man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for kidnapping his estranged wife and taking her to Mexico in 2011, and robbing a Kansas bank along the way.

Timothy Caskey plead guilty last year to abducting his wife off a street in Virginia, Minnesota, just hours after he got out of jail for violating a protective order she had against him. He held her captive in Mexico for three weeks.

The judge called Caskey's crimes horrific after hearing a letter from his victim. She described being beaten, starved and repeatedly raped.

Caskey says he now realizes how wrong he was. His attorney urged the judge to consider his troubled past, saying he had been molested by his mother in his childhood.
