MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A mentally ill patient at the Minnesota Security Hospital allegedly told authorities he assaulted a fellow patient because he was angry with staff and wanted to get their attention.

Thirty-one-year-old Darnell Dee Whitefeather was charged Friday with murder. According to a criminal complaint, he admitted to stomping on the victim's head possibly as many as 30 times.

Forty-one-year-old Michael Francis Douglas was found lying in his room Wednesday night with severe head trauma. He died of his injuries.

The complaint says Whitefeather told police he had no prior issues with Douglas.

The public defender had not yet received information on Whitefeather's case and had no immediate comment.

The Minnesota Security Hospital serves people who are committed as mentally ill or mentally ill and dangerous. Both men were committed last year.
