COTTON -- St. Louis County sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Cotton around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Authorities say the 37-year-old suspect entered the home and hit the homeowner with a garden shovel.

The suspect ran when he was confronted by other people in the house. Deputies in pursuit encountered a vehicle driving south in the northbound lane of Highway 53.

Officers used a maneuver to cause the suspect to spin off the road and arrested the driver. He was identified as the suspect in the assault.

The homeowner denied medical help. The suspect is in jail, awaiting charges.
