ST. CLOUD - Next year's 5th grade class at Madison Elementary in St. Cloud will be going to school at North Junior High.

Superintendent Bruce Watkins says enrollment at the school has increased by about 200 students over the past two years.

During the school board meeting, board member Jerry Von Korff wanted assurance that it was just a one-year move, and that the board would make a committment to expand Madison.

Board Member Steve Sorensen was the lone member to vote against the move.  He questioned why the district would spend possibly a million dollars to add classrooms to Madison when they still own the old Kennedy school in St. Joseph, which is sitting mostly vacant.  Von Korff responded that busing kids to the old Kennedy would not be a long term solution for the district.
