Lucille H. Johnson, 101, St. Cloud

October 13, 1914 - July 14, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Lucille H.Johnson, 101, of St. Cloud will beat 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Lucille passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Northern Lakes Senior Living in Baxter. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. The Daughters of Isabella will pray at 4:00 p.m. and parish prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lucille was born on October 13, 1914 in Opole, Minnesota to Valentine and Agnes (Drygas) Waverek. She married Buford D. Johnson on October 5, 1935 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and lived most of her life in St. Cloud. After raising her children, Lucille worked at the St. Cloud Children’s Home where she met her foster daughter. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish, the Daughters of Isabella, the Crosier Apostolates and volunteered with Catholic Charities.Lucille enjoyed league bowling, playing cards, crocheting, fishing, spending time at the lake and following politics. She was an avid swimmer at the YMCA and was swimming laps well into her 90’s. Lucille is survived by her son, J. Lucille is survived by her son, J. Buford “Butch” (Diane) Johnson of Pequot Lakes, foster daughter, Debbie Pilarski of St. Cloud; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford in 2000; daughter, Janyce in 1954; and 16 siblings. Memorials are preferred to St. Anthony’s Educational Endowment Fund where a scholarship in memory of Buford and Lucille Johnson is set up.
