SAUK RAPIDS - The longtime owner of the Sauk Rapids Herald has died. Roland "Rollie" Doroff died unexpectedly at his home on Easter Sunday at the age of 81.Doroff began working at the Sauk Rapids Herald in 1953. He bought the newspaper in 1970.

Doroff put the paper up for sale earlier this year, saying he was ready to retire. His wife Winnie tells WJON news the paper has not been sold yet.

Services have been scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids.

The Sauk Rapids Herald began publishing in April 1854 - 161 years ago. It bills itself at the "oldest weekly newspaper in Minnesota"
