ST. CLOUD -- September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and libraries across the country are encouraging people to sign up for access to all the free resources libraries have to offer.

Ryan McCormick of the Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud says the process takes only a few minutes.

"Bring an I.D. and proof of residence and we'll get you set up - it's a real quick process and free of charge," McCormick says.

McCormick says you can sign up for a library card at the front desk and gain access to resources online and on site.

"You can use your library card both in the physical library...and we have about a million items available for checkout," McCormick says.

"But you can also use your library card online and check out e-books...and a lot of great databases."

McCormick encourages anyone interested to sign up.

"A lot of times we say things like 'having a library card will open the world to you' and I absolutely believe that's the case," McCormick says.

"It's an endless source of information and it's free and it's fantastic."
