Lewis Theodore “TED” Jacobson, 72, of Sartell, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2016 peacefully in his sleep, at the VA Hospice Unit in St. Cloud. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday October 6, 2016, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Sartell. Visitation will be held at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Burial will take place Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, Minnesota.

Ted was born in Benson, Minnesota on March 14, 1944 to Clarence & Viola (Soltau) Jacobson. He graduated from Benson HS in 1962. On October 3, 1962 he enlisted in the US Air Force, and left for Lackland AFB, Texas for 8 weeks of basic training. That training was abbreviated to 5 weeks, then sent on to Lowry AFB, in Colorado to attend Technical Support School. In September 1963 he moved to Nellis AFB, in Las Vegas, Nevada and resided there until April 1965. After that he was he was at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan and sent to Korat Royal Thai AFB in Thailand with the Tactical Fighter Wing from July 1966 to July 1967. Ted was transferred to McConnell AFB, Wichita, Kansas. He lived there from July 1967 to February 1971. He was married to Tomoko Unten from September 7, 1967 to October 1977. From that union came 2 children, Lisa Marie born June 1968, and Ryan Eric born March 1970.

February 1971 to April 1972 came a move to Davis-Monson AFB, Tucson, Arizona. From April 1972 until June 1973 he was stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. June 1973 to March 1978 Ted was an Instructor at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado. Next was a move to Seymour Johnson AFB, Goldsboro, North Carolina from March 1978 to June 1980. Ted resided overseas again from June 1980 until August 1983 at Bitburg Air Base, in Germany. While stationed there he met Gitta Malberg. 33 years ago on December 17, 1982 they were married. For the remainder of his Air Force career he was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, in South Dakota. He retired May 31st, 1985. Starting in March of 1986 he began his employment with the United States Postal Service in Rapid City, SD, transferring to Waite Park, MN in 1994 and retiring after 20 years.

Ted loved cars, motorcycles, and Nascar races. Any new electronic gadget caught his eye and more than likely would soon be within his grasp. Ted’s biggest love was his family and friends. He loved spending time with them and sharing stories and memories over a good meal. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and always had a kind smile and supportive and encouraging words of wisdom.

He is survived by his wife Gitta Jacobson. Children, Lisa (Mike) Boland, Pierre, SD and Ryan Jacobson (Roxane Cutler), Las Vegas, NV; stepson, Alexander Brost, Germany; Grandchildren, Priscilla and Augustine Boland, Tyler and Stephanie Jacobson; One brother, Alan Jacobson, Benson, MN; Four sisters, Gwen Sinclair, Omaha, NE, Claudia Veiman, Omaha, NE, Helen Norstedt, Benson, MN, Becky Newstrom, Brainerd, MN; Sister-in-Law, Terry Long, Phoenix AZ. Ted was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials have been established to benefit the St. Cloud VA.
