Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Popple Creek for Leslie F. Gavanda, 91 of St. Cloud, who died Thursday at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Rev. Timothy Rehwaldt will officiate and burial will be at a later date. Friends and relatives may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church in Popple Creek.

Les was born in Foley to Fred and Ida (Wittkowski) Gavanda on October 8, 1923. He served his country in the United States Army from 1945 – 1946. He married Evelyn T. Jacquemart on May 10, 1950 in Popple Creek. Les farmed on the family farm in Benton County his entire life. He was a member of the Foley American Legion Post #298 and was the Gilmanton Township Supervisor for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially farming with his sons. Les was a hard worker, very determined and strong willed.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of St. Cloud; sons, Roger (Linda) of Foley and Richard (Linda Anderson) of Rice; sisters, Dorothy (Bob) Libbesmeier of Kimball and Renee Schiller of Sartell; grandchildren, Melissa Gavanda, Kristen Kratz and Katie Gavanda; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Johnson and Bernice Becker; and grandchildren, Richard and Jacob Gavanda.
