Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for Lawrence A. Johnson, age 88, who passed away Thursday. Rev. Timothy Gapinski will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Tuesday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Parish Prayers will be at 4:30 PM
and VFW Post 428 will have Ritual Prayers at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Lawrence was born March 6, 1929 to Lawrence and Ursula (Rauch) Johnson in St. Augusta Township. He graduated in 1947 from Cathedral High School. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Lawrence married Elaine Maehren June 28, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He was employed for 39 years as a sheet metal welder for Great Northern/ Burlington Northern Railway. Lawrence was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society, Life Member of V.F.W. Post 428, Wood Carvers Club, NARVRE (National Association of Retired and Veterans Railway Employees), and BNSF Railway Veterans Association. Lawrence kept busy with wood carving, reading, and square dancing. He enjoyed the outdoors while hunting and fishing and especially liked watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Timberwolves.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Elaine of Waite Park; children, Kathy (Don) Erpelding of Watkins, Gary (Brenda) Johnson of Sauk Rapids, Judy (Jim) Baxter of Blaine; grandchildren, Michael Erpelding of Watkins, Theresa Erpelding of St. Cloud, Kelsey (Chris) Lamprecht of Burnsville; great grandchild, Ethan Erpelding of Watkins; sisters, Alice Goenner and Margaret (Charlie) Horman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Ervin and Alfred; sisters, Grace Latimer, Anice Bluhm and Sr. Romona Johnson O.S.F.
