Law Enforcement Couple Accused in American Girl Doll Swindle
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minnesota couple who worked in law enforcement is accused of running a scam involving American Girl merchandise.
Investigators say the Farmington couple brought discount items bought online to the American Girl store at the Mall of America store for a full price refund. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says the couple returned about 135 items in 2013 and 2014.
Prosecutors say the couple made about $5,300. Freeman says it's puzzling why people with good jobs would resort to this kind of scam. American Girl employees became suspicious of the couple in March 2014, so a manager began taking a closer look.
Thirty-seven-year-old Jennifer Cho was a special agent in the Minnesota Department of Commerce's fraud bureau. Thirty-four-year-old Henry Lim Cho is a former Rosemount police officer. Court records do not list a defense attorney.
