Kleis Says State Budget Is Priority, But Wants Civic Center In Bonding Bill
ST. CLOUD -- As the Minnesota Legislature deals with a $6-billion budget deficit, there are those who are hoping for a small bonding bill this year.
St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says he feels the state needs to address the budget first. But, he says if there is a bonding bill they want their only project included....completing the Civic Center expansion.
Kleis says some lawmakers have told him they will fund the project next year during a bonding year. But, he questions why the state wouldn't do it now when it will cost less.
The city is looking for up to $12-million in bonding money to build a parking ramp, skyway and river features back into the project.
The city has already started expanding the civic center by using food and beverage tax dollars.
