BENSON (AP) - Swift County sheriff's officials say all students at a Benson elementary school are safe after a kindergartener brought a gun to school.

Sheriff John Holtz says other students at Northside Elementary became aware of the firearm Tuesday morning and notified a teacher. The gun was confiscated. Authorities say there was no apparent intent by the kindergartener to cause any harm.

Benson Police Chief Ian Hodge says the kindergartner was about 5 years old and brought the gun to school to show a friend. Hodge says the gun was not discharged on school property.

the school district has a zero tolerance for weapons, but the superintendent has discretion in determining a course of action for the student.
