Kimball Caregiver Sentenced to 45 Days for Genitals Injury

KIMBALL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota caregiver convicted of grabbing an assisted-living resident off a toilet by his genitals has been sentenced to 45 days in jail.

A Stearns County jury convicted 37-year-old Melissa Stern of abuse of a vulnerable adult by a caregiver. She was sentenced on Friday.

A co-worker at the Kimball facility told investigators that Stern grabbed the resident's genitals after he wouldn't get off the toilet. The 77-year-old suffered a scratch on his penis that drew blood.

A message left for Stern's attorney Saturday was not immediately returned.

Stern was also ordered Friday to pay $685 in fines and fees. She'll be allowed to serve the sentence through work release and may do community service in place of paying the fine.
