A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Kenny J. Deters, age 77, of St. Cloud who passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Entombment of the Urn will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls with full military honors.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday all at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Ken was born on December 8, 1939 in Brooten, MN to Joseph and Elnor (Weiser) Deters. He graduated Cathedral High School class of 1957. He joined the Marine Corp August, 1957 and was honorably discharged August, 1960 as a Corporeal E-4. Afterwards he joined the St. Cloud Police Department in September, 1961. On November 25, 1961 he married Jean Rausch at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. They had three children; Jeffrey, Daniel and Lori.

While on the police department he made rank of Captain. He was in charge of the patrol division, police reserves, swat team and other positions that went with his rank. Kenny retired September, 1999 after 38 years of service. While on the police department he pistol shot competitively on the department’s pistol team, receiving many trophies as a master shooter.

Ken was a member of Minnesota Police Peace Officers Association, St. Cloud Retirees Association, St. Cloud Eagles, and was a league bowler for many years. Ken also golfed on league and enjoyed fishing trips. Ken spent many years camping with family and friends. The last 17 years having a summer place on Lake Edward by Nisswa. He enjoyed reading about and watching his grandchildren in their many sports.

Ken is survived by his wife, Jean of 56 years; sons, Jeffrey (Anne) of Sartell, Daniel (Brenda) of St. Cloud; daughter, Lori (Keith) of Waite Park; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Paige) Deters of Sartell, Erin of Sartell, Kyle Wilkinson of Eagan, Megan Wilkinson of Sauk Rapids, Kevin Klein (Kayla) of Paynesville, Kody (fiancée, Julie) Klein of Moorhead, Keith (Kayla) Klein of Paynesville; great- grandchildren, Logan Alyvia Klein, Maggie, Molly, and Oden; brothers, Telly “TF” ( Monica) of Shoreview and Bill (Mary) of St. Cloud.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents; Elnor and Joseph; step-father, Roy Dewenter; in-laws, Gladys and Richard Rausch, sister- in- law, Jennifer Puhl; brothers-in-law, Donald Hess and Richard Skuza.
