ST. CLOUD (AP) — A judge has ordered a St. Cloud man accused of fatally stabbing his mother indefinitely committed to a state mental-health facility.

The Stearns County judge signed the order Tuesday after 54-year-old Dean Friese was found incompetent to stand trial.

Friese is accused of stabbing his 72-year-old mother, Lois Omeara, in September 2013. The mother and son lived in separate apartments in a St. Cloud apartment complex. Court records accuse Friese of luring his mother to his apartment by pulling a medical alarm.

Friese has undergone several mental exams. Some have found him competent to stand trial while others have found him unable to assist his attorneys in his own defense.

Friese was scheduled to go on trial May 10, but that will be postponed.
