ST. PAUL-- The Rev. Jesse Jackson has met with Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton and the girlfriend of a man who was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop in a St. Paul suburb.

Jackson says he wanted to "thank the governor for being forthright about the racial ramifications of the shooting."

Dayton said he thinks a police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile in Falcon Heights this week never would have fired if the driver had been white. Castile was black. The race of the officer who shot him isn't known, but Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, described him as Asian.

Jackson says he talked to Dayton "about ways to build bridges and close gaps."

He says he wanted to encourage Reynolds and help her and her child get access to resources they may need to recover from the trauma of witnessing the shooting.
