Jeannette “Jan” M. Hiemenz, 76, St. Joseph

May 30, 1939 - April 26, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph for Jeannette “Jan” M. Hiemenz, age 76, of St. Joseph, who passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at her home. The Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Jeanette was born on May 30, 1939 to William and Ludwina (Machtemas) Achman in Avon, MN. She attended St. Benedict’s High School in St. Joseph. She later went on to the College of St. Scholastica and then medical tech school. She married William “Bill” Hiemenz on October 11, 1969 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon. Prior to their marriage she worked as a medical technician and later worked for the Montevideo school district as an ECFE teacher’s assistant. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Montevideo for many years. She was currently a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph.
Jan loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, reading, cooking and finding new recipes, going for walks and being active, planting flower beds, traveling throughout Europe, and going on cruises.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of 46 years; children, Chad (Darci) of Gretna, NE, Craig (Heather) of Centerville, MN, Holly (Mike) Sonntag of Lino Lakes, MN, Heidi (Daryl) Schaefer of St. Joseph, MN; grandchildren, Cole and Kylie, Will and Sam Sonntag, and Taylar, Zac, and Keaton Schaefer, step-grandchildren, Chandler and Ashley Krohn; brothers, Glen and Bill (Dorothy) Achman.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Rose Achman.
