James was born on February 16, 1933 in Hendricks, MN to Benjamin and Florence (Davis) Fasbender. During his youth he helped on the farm and also did carpentry work. James married MaryAnn Ludwig on June 30, 1959 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry. After their marriage, they farmed near White, SD, until 1963 when they moved to the farm they purchased in rural Paynesville.

James enjoyed farming, carpentry, dancing, milking cows and raising sheep. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, beloved grandchildren and friends. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a charter member and the first president of the Koronis Night Owls Square Dance Club.

He is survived by his wife; children, Dr. Patricia Fasbender of Des Moines, IA, Linda (Scott) Liebl of Richmond, MN, and Joe (Christina) Fasbender of Wyoming, MN; grandchildren, Leeza, Patric and Petir Thompson, Mack and Ben Liebl, and Lillian and Ruby Fasbender; sisters, Sr. Ann Fasbender of Yankton, SD and Veronica Reilly of Huron, SD.

James is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Amy, and sisters, Sr. Bennett Fasbender and Sr. Veronica Fasbender.

In lieu of flowers, masses and memorials are preferred.

The family of James thanks you for your kind expressions of sympathy; they are deeply appreciated. Instead of sending thank you cards, James requested that Masses of Thanksgiving be offered for you and your intentions.
