ST. PAUL - "Jacob's Law" now awaits Governor Mark Dayton's signature to become law.

Representative Bruce Vogel of Willmar wrote the legislation after Jacob, the son of Sarah Guigisberg, was sexually abused by a neighbor, but Sarah was not told because her estranged husband decided not to press charges. Vogel says Sarah never found out Jacob was abused until it was almost too late.

Vogel says "Jacob's Law" requires both parents to be told if their child was possibly sexually abused outside their home. If there's an order for protection in effect, a third party will make sure both parents are informed.

Vogel says Dayton was expecting the bill and is optimistic he will sign it.
