AITKIN, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota State Patrol says investigators don't believe the hit-and-run deaths of a young girl and an elderly woman in Aitkin County on the same day are related.

In both cases, authorities are still looking for the drivers who struck and killed the two nearly a week ago.

Eighty-five-year-old Margaret Ann Johnson was found dead near her mailbox along Highway 47 near Aitkin Friday. Her son, Scott Johnson, says the family is sad, mad and confused about her death.

State Patrol Sergeant Neil Dickenson says Johnson's death is apparently unrelated to the hit-and-run death of 10-year-old Caylin Donovan of Lake Park. She was killed Friday as she walked along Highway 18 near Mille Lacs Lake.

Patrol officials say it's possible that in both cases, the driver didn't realize that a person had been struck.
