BEMIDJI (AP) - Freezing rain is coating roads in northern Minnesota with a thick layer of ice.

The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for parts of the Northland, including Cass, Beltrami and Koochiching counties. The slick travel conditions have caused some school districts to cancel or delay classes Friday.

Duluth, Ely, Hibbing and Chisholm schools are among those closed.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports many icy roads in northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Freezing rain is expected to end later Friday with snow developing. Forecasters expect 3 to 7 inches of snow for northern St. Louis, northern Itasca and Koochiching counties.
