Horse Euthanized at 4-H Show Did Not Have Virus

ST. PAUL (AP) - Fair organizers say a horse euthanized at the Minnesota State 4-H Horse Show did not have a deadly virus as feared.

The horse from Clay County developed symptoms consistent with a strain of equine herpes virus, a disease that can spread easily to other horses. Some show events were canceled because of the possibility of the virus and owners were asked to quarantine their horses afterward. The horse was put down Friday.

4-H fair director Brad Rugg says tests by the University of Minnesota's vet lab were negative and the quarantine has been canceled.
