SARTELL - The Tom Bearson Foundation is holding an event on Friday night to raise money to help the community in memory of Tom.

"Hoopin' For Tommy B Night" will take place during the Sartell boys basketball game against ROCORI at 6:00 p.m. at Sartell High School. Tommy B shirts will be available to buy for $5 with money going to his foundation. Those who already have a shirt are encouraged to wear it to the event.

At halftime there will also be a performance by the Alexandria Aces-a basketball performance team. They have been featured on ESPN and various basketball games. Free wristbands that say "Tommy B - Hoopin' in Heaven" will be given out to those in attendance.

Greg Bearson is Tom's father, he says one of the goals for the foundation is to increase local opportunities in basketball.

"Whether or not that's improving gym space or adding space. In fact, we just announced a major project: to renovate the St. Francis Xavier gym in Sartell. We're looking to do that sometime now in the summer of 2016."

The foundation also has the goal to provide student scholarships and partner with organizations that promote on and off campus safety for all college students. Tom was killed in September 2014 in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He was a freshman at North Dakota State University. No arrests have been made in the case.

Greg Bearson says they've had a huge outpouring of support.

"It's almost beyond words, we were so humbled. If you go through something like our family did, one of the most important things is to have your friends, family and neighbors to lean on, and we've been blessed with that."
