ST. CLOUD - The long awaited groundbreaking for the National Hockey Center renovation is happening tomorrow (Friday).   The ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the center ice of the main rink.

The renovation will happen in two phases over the course of a couple years.  The total cost of the project is $30 million.  $6.5 million is coming from state bonding money.

Besides enhancing the fan experience for SCSU hockey fans, the plans also include creating a facility that can host concerts and other events.  Seating capacity will increase from 6,600 to over 8,000.

This is the first major renovation for the facility since it opened in December of 1989.
